OK OK. For all of you NOT familiar with KEXP in Seattle - ya better get hip quick. This has to be one of the most Internet/music lover friendly stations in existence. AND the site is up for a Webby award. Yes webbys are pretty 90s but KEXP must be doing something right! here is a breakdown of why this site rocks:
* The station is public radio - we all know how much radio commericals suck, 'nuff said on that. BUT that means it is listener supported so if you use it - pay fot it
* Paul Allen is backing it via the University of Washington that helps!
* There is a broad range of music on KEXP - excluding pop music - that is a good thing - dial up to 107.7 if you want that stuff
* My favorite shows - Positive Vibrations 9 am - noon every saturday - the best in Jamacian Music - roots to dancehall - GOOD! I also tune in from 6 pm - 8 pm on Sunday evenings to Street Sounds - THE ONLY RAP/HIP HOP SHOW IN THE S_E_A !!!! 93.3 is for Jr high kids
* ALL shows are archived online for two weeks at a time! This is sic - i re-listen to my favorite shows all week at work. I also record each show on mini-disc to archive
* You can enter the archived stream at ANY PLACE in the show by keying in the time and date. BADASS!
you can find the station at www.kexp.org

Last night I come home from work drop off some stuff, pick up Mr. P and head out to pick up Andrea at the park and ride. On my way I see news trucks and skid marks - never a good combo in your neighborhood. Turns out two tools from Redmond High School decided to street race during lunch in a 25 mph zone. 17 year olds can hardly drive let alone race so the ended up crashing into my neighbors house. The brain power of the average kid with a 1992 Isuzu Implulse is stunning. What a freaking nugget.
I was pointed to an interesting article in the New York Times Magazine yesterday talking about the new library being built in downtown Seattle. It basically raises the point that Seattle has had several buildings in the recent years designed by famous arcitects. Problem is all of them are uninteresting or flat ugly. I think it is cool that the arcitectual elite in places like NY aree paying attention to us outer here in the woods, even it is to make fune of us.
I have seen it driving by and I do agree the thing is scary. But should be the goal of structures in the concrete jungle - scare and intimidate the residents to the point of submission :)
